Santa Fe beats Memorial 34-10

In their final Edlam match of the season, and first district game, Edmond Santa Fe dispatched Edlam rival Memorial by a score of 34-10 on Friday in Wolves Stadium behind a five-touchdown performance from quarterback Kanan Hansen. Santa Fe dominated the entirety of the first half when the Wolves racked up 322 yards of total offense throughout the first two quarters. Per usual, Santa Fe’s dominance stemmed from the back of running back Mbari Snoddy. The senior rushed for 91 yards on 12 attempts in the first half. Snoddy also caught two touchdown receptions: Once, with 5:02 left in the first that he took 28-yards to pay dirt on a screen pass from Kanan Hansen; and a second on a Tebow-esque jump pass for Santa Fe’s final points of the half. Santa Fe paired the normal Snoddy show with an impressive first half from receiver Nick Sharp. Sharp caught 7 passes for 135 yards during the first 24 minutes of play, including two more touchdown passes from Hansen. Sharp’s biggest reception of the half bailed out the Wolves offense when Hansen found Sharp on a 3rd and 17 conversion from the 50-yard line. Sharp earned a first down and the touchdown all in the same play. Kanan Hansen accounted for all of Santa Fe’s touchdowns, too, when he racked up 215 yards in the first half during his 4 strikes to Snoddy and Sharp. Memorial had little success in the half outside of their big front line of defense. That defensive front sacked Hansen five times, three of which were credited to Memorial’s Junior Zungura, for a total loss off 39 yards. Despite the five sacks, Santa Fe took a 27-0 lead into half, with Austin Garcia converting three of the four extra point attempts. In the failed attempt, Garcia didn’t get a chance to kick after his holder botched the snap. Hansen recorded one more passing touchdown after play resumed in the second half when he connected with Donovan Vickers on a 19-yard touchdown reception that ballooned the Wolves lead to 34-0. The score came with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter. Santa Fe kept quiet after Hansen’s fifth touchdown, as the Wolves opted to slow the game down and work the clock. With all the work Nick Sharp put in during the first half of play, the senior went catchless in the second when the Wolves opted for a more clock-clearing playstyle. Sharp’s 135 yards, and 2 touchdowns, recorded in the first half still lead the team in receiving yards, despite his inactivity later on. Hansen completed 15 of his 24 passes to 5 separate Santa Fe receivers for 283 yards and 5 touchdowns in the win. Memorial’s starting quarterback, Blake Burgess, didn’t see the field during second-half play, with the Bulldogs instead opting to alternate possessions between backups Andrew Horton and Trace Evans. The pair had some success, when they combined for 49 yards and 6 points in the second half. The sixer, which came on a Trace Evans’ pass to Ben Parkhurst, brought the score to the final tally of 34-10. Memorial’s Parker Reneau converted a 39-yard field goal attempt at the start of the fourth quarter. The loss drops Memorial to 1-4 on the year as the Bulldogs have lost four straight after opening the season with a 28-7 win over Ponca City. Santa Fe’s victory over Memorial means that the Wolves have won all Edlam competitions with their wins coming against North, Deer Creek, and Memorial.
