Despite a 21-point outburst in the third quarter, the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs lost a home contest to the Westmoore Jaguars on Friday by a score of 55-28. The first half was a half to forget for Justin Meredith’s Bulldogs. With Memorial struggling and Westmoore ranked as one of the best teams in the state, expectations were low coming in. But, Westmoore got points from every possession in the first half — 5 touchdowns and a field goal – with Memorial only answering back with one. That single, first-half touchdown for the Bulldogs came from a running back so new to the team that he wasn’t even on the roster. Braden Gaffney took a 26-yarder to the end zone on his second carry of the night with 1:10 left in the first quarter. Gaffney’s score brought the game to 10-7 temporarily, but the newest Bulldog didn’t get another carry until the end of the first half with Memorial trailing 38-7. The third quarter saw greener pastures for Memorial when they put up 21 points in the 12 minutes after halftime. Nate Williams powered in an 8-yard run after a fake punt from Parker Reneau converted a 4th and 14. Then, in the next two possessions, Blake Burgess found Navy commit Brendan Mitchell twice for six points: once from 49-yards away, and once on a back-shoulder-fade from 4-yards out. The Bulldog defense couldn’t slow down the Westmoore offense, though, with the Jaguars only punting once in the game. The scoring outburst meant that Memorial couldn’t realistically get back into the contest, as every Memorial point scored was quickly countered by Westmoore. The 55-28 loss is Memorial’s fifth loss in a row and it drops the Bulldogs to 1-5. Memorial will look to get back into the win column next week when they travel to face Jenks in Tulsa on Friday.
