North’s Braden Hill threw a suffocating five-innings on Monday when his Huskies hammered Memorial’s young Bulldog baseball roster to an early ending on Monday at North High School. Hill got out of the five innings in exactly 70 pitches — that’s 14 tosses every three outs — when he found the strike zone on 55 percent of his pitches in the win. Hill allowed only two hits in 17 at-bats in the 14-1 win. North didn’t share Memorial’s offensive struggles on Monday, though, with the Huskies instead recording hits in 46 percent (12-of-26) of the team’s plate appearances. Led by Alex Kramer’s team-high four-RBI, 2-for-3 day, six other Huskies recorded an RBI when they hammered Memorial’s young pitching rotation in just four offensive series. Those with RBIs included Karsten Menard (3; 1-for-2), Gage Messner (2; 1-for-3), Janson Reeder (2; 2-for-3), Braden Steele (1), Ryan Harris (1) and Carter Hines (1). North scored a stair-step of runs after plating three, four, then five in the first three bottom half innings. They rounded out Monday’s early contest by scoring two in the fourth before Hill and company retired three of the five Memorial batters in the top of the fifth, enacting a run rule. Despite HIll’s grand performance, Memorial’s Chris Weber ruined the shut-out bid in the top of the fourth inning. Sending a liner to left field, Weber tripled on a hit that scored Colton Loyd. Loyd reached on a two-out walk one batter prior to Weber’s hack. The win continued North on their season starting hot streak. After winning 10 in a row to start the year, North lost two consecutive games in the Coach Bob Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., last week. Monday’s win against Edlam rival Memorial raises their record to 11 wins and two losses. An oddity in Monday’s Edlam match was the lack of extra-base knocks from the Huskies’ offense. Recording 12 hits in the victory, North’s Gage Messner was the only one to etch an extra-base hit into the scorebook in the win, with the Huskies instead using a style of small-ball to better the ’Dogs on Monday. That contest was the first in a home-and-home between two of Edmond’s schools. On Tuesday, if not prevented by early morning showers, the Bulldogs were slated to host the week’s second pairing between the two teams. With first pitch scheduled at 5 p.m., the results concluded after deadline for the midweek edition of the Edmond Sun.
