Memorial softball honors seniors in dominating win

On a night aimed at honoring three seniors for the Memorial Softball Team, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the visiting Putnam City West Lady Patriots by a score of 12-3. Memorial scored exactly three runs in every inning that the Lady Bulldogs had plate appearances. Seniors Kendall Murphy, Bre Putnam and Karsen Heron batted one, two and three for Memorial when they led the team in the run-rule victory on the night aimed at honoring them. Murphy, the lead-off, didn’t register an at-bat in the scorebook after she was walked in all three of her plate appearances. Putnam also recorded a 1.00 on base percentage in the contest when she recorded a single and two walks. Karsen singled and walked for Memorial, as well, for a perfect batting average that included 2 RBIs. Most of the Memorial batters struggled to record statistical at-bats, too, with 7 of the 9 Lady Bulldog batters being hit by at least one pitch. In their final year of eligibility, those three seniors have been tasked with leading a roster filled with inexperience, at least classification wise, throughout this season. The lack of senior names across the roster has forced Memorial to fill six of the nine positions with a girl who will retain eligibility after this school year. That is a considerable amount for a class 6A high school. Despite that lack of experience; however, the Memorial seniors have been able to keep the team above .500, with the Lady Bulldogs registering 18 wins compared to 14 losses. Karsen generally plays third base with Murphy dictating the outfield from center. Bre Putnam was the only difference during senior night when she played catcher, as opposed to her normal outfield role. Freshman Emersen Heron, younger sister to Karsen, pitched inTuesday’s win where she recorded 8 strikeouts in 4 innings while only allowing 1 earned run and 1 base on balls.
