JV Seat feels grateful just to be out on the floor for Edmond Memorial.

His teammates feel the same.

A 6-foot-3 freshman, Seat dominated for No. 1 Edmond Memorial from the opening tip of the Bruce Gray Invitational Tournament.

Seat scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Edmond Memorial blew past Midwest City 74-35 to take the title.

“It feels really cool,” Seat said. “As a freshman I'm just glad to be part of the team and doing some good things.”

His teammates can't say enough good things about him.

Senior forward Jacob Thionnet, who was named tournament MVP after scoring 17 points and dishing out five assists, said Seat has given him and the Bulldogs a new dynamic.

“JV is a specimen,” he said. “He's a different breed and it's awesome cause it means I don't have to play inside. He really allows us to kind of play more open.”

Seat said he still feels the pressure of being a freshman in the lineup, but as Edmond Memorial improves to 17-1 and the winners of nine straight, the freshman is just trying to soak it all in.

“It's really great,” he said. “Every day getting to hang with these guys and us succeeding. It's just a lot of fun.”
