Memorial, Oklahoma Christian School finish top-10 at Jimmie Austin

NORMAN — Both Edmond Memorial and Oklahoma Christian School finished in the top ten at the Jimmie Austin Invitational golf tournament in Norman on Tuesday. Two was Memorial’s lucky number on Tuesday as the Bulldogs took home second place as a team and Austin Dolan finished second as an individual at the tournament. “It was a loaded field, so many fantastic golfers,” said Memorial head coach Scott MacDonald. “I’m happy with the way we competed, from start to finish.” The Bulldogs shot 307 on the day and Dolan finished with 71. Trailing Dolan was senior Zane Heusel with 75. Rounding out scoring for the Bulldogs was Cooper Wilguess with 78 and Asher Clift and Trent Martindale with 83 each. OCS, meanwhile, finished in seventh place with a 316-stroke day. “We certainly struggled a bit, but in the categories that mean the most to me, “ said OCS Head Coach Tosh Hays, “heart, grinding ’til the last shot is holed, staying positive, the boys are excellent.” The defending 3A State Champion Saints were stacked against a field of mostly 5A and 6A schools, including fellow defending title-bearers Edmond North and Guthrie. Hays said that tougher competition is not a factor his team takes into account. “Honestly, who is in the field is not something I want the boys to pay much attention to,” Hays said. “No matter where we are playing, I want us to be focused on what we are doing.” Wesley Sachs led the way for the Saints with 76 and Jaxon Dowell closely trailed him with 77. Boston Benn, Said Powers and Ian Fritts rounded out scoring for OCS with 78, 85 and 86. Also competing in the tournament was Edmond Santa Fe JV and Edmond North JV. Santa Fe JV finished the day with a score of 329, closely trailed by North JV with a score of 332.
