Edmond Memorial’s girls golf roster came home from the annual Choctaw Invitation with a first place prize after three of their five team members placed top-10 individually at the event. Led by Lilly Whitley’s second-placed 78 score, the Lady Bulldogs scored a 329 overall for tournament grand prize. Memorial has finished on the podium for each of the tournaments they’ve competed it in this season, with Tuesday’s championship pairing with an earlier season runner-up finish. “These girls are playing so well and complimenting each other nicely,” Memorial head coach Janet Chartney said after the tournament. “If one player has an off day, then another player is picking them up. “I am so proud of their efforts and disposition on and off the course.” Rounding out the one through five bags for Memorial was Loren Ogburn’s third-placed 82 and Isabel Hoppe’s sixth-placed 87. Olivia Colt and Ashlee McDaniel each put up 90-overall scores. The win lays Memorial up for the upcoming postseason tournaments. Starting on Monday, they’ll compete in the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference’s annual COAC tournament. Then — after the traditional State Pre-View at Earlywine Golf Course on April 15 — the Lady Bulldogs will compete at the Norman Regional on April 23. Class 6A State is the following week, on May 1 and 2. “We hope to keep putting up these competitive scores both as individuals and as a team,” Chartney said. Additionally, and according to Chartney, her Junior Varsity roster shot one of their best scores ever at the Choctaw tournament, too. Improving their scores from course to course, the JV roster finished with a 405. Lillian Banks scored a 95, Raigan Stepp hit a 99, Chloe May inked a 105, and Madison Peyton and Grace Lombano scored 106 and 117, respectively.
