MOORE — Edmond Memorial flexed its muscles in preparation for this week’s OSSAA regional qualifying meets by capturing the championship trophies in both boys and girls divisions of the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference (COAC) track and field championships at Moore Stadium Friday. Regional qualifying meets this Saturday will determine the field for the OSSAA State Track and Field Championships at Yukon May 10-11. The top three finishers in each event automatically qualify for State and the best fourth place performers in each event at the four regional sites will have a chance to grab an at-large bid. The Bulldogs easily won the concluding 1600-meter relay in a time of 3:26.33 to overtake Norman for the boys’ championship. Norman held a 91-85 lead going into the final race which meant a third-place finish would hand the team title to the Tigers even if Memorial won. But Yukon and Southmoore finished ahead of the Tigers to give Memorial a 105-99 margin for the championship trophy. Santa Fe had 93.5 points to finish in third place. No such drama for the girls as the Lady Bulldogs racked up 182 points with North second with 160 and Deer Creek third. The Lady Bulldogs won both the 800-meter (1:42.88) and 1600-meter (3:56.23) relays for a comfortable cushion; Addie O’Connor won the 800 in 2:20.94; and Alysheeia Joseph was winner of the 100 in a time of 12.37. Crislyn Cole won the shot put and Erin Talbott fueled a 1-2-3 sweep of the discus for the Lady Bulldogs with Cole second and Kaylee Rampey third for 24 points. Dakari Charlton won both the 100 (11.20) and 200 (22.40) to go with the Bulldogs’ 3:26.33 victory in the 1600. Mary McKee won the gold medal in the 300 hurdles for Memorial in 44.58. Maddie Medina of Edmond North continued her domination of the distance races with a 5:16.18 win in the 1600 and victory in the 3200 in 11:17.95. The North girls won the 400-meter relay in 49.11 and the 3200 relay in 9:29.64. Gold medal winners for Deer Creek included Steven Clark who won the 1600 in 4:28.30; Reed Eden, winner of the discus with a throw of 156-8; and Paxton Gary, who took gold in the 110 hurdles in 15.47. Santa Fe boys won the 3200-meter relay in 8:02.01 and Angelo Rankin was the winner of the 300 hurdles in 40.01.
