Memorial girls grab title No. 4

MOORE — The Edmond Memorial Lady Bulldogs easily tamed the Beasts from the East and romped to their fourth straight OSSAA Class 6A Track and Field Championships Saturday at Moore High School. The Lady Bulldogs fought off mild threats from Broken Arrow, Jenks and Union to pile up 147 points, claiming gold in five events. Broken Arrow, Jenks and Southmoore were all well behind. As usual, balance was the key for Memorial but sprinter Alysheeia Joseph ignited an early surge that decided the outcome. Joseph, Mary McKee, Caylor Cole and Shekinah Oloyede won the inaugural 400-meter relay in 47.75 and, after a short rest, won the 800-meter relay in 1:41.81. Memorial also scored points with second in the 1600 relay and fourth in the 3200 relay. Then Joseph, Cole and Oloyede racked up 16 points with a 1-4-7 finish in the 100 with Joseph taking gold in 12.10. Joseph and Cole were 5-6 in the 200. The Lady Dogs got their usual boost from the field events with Crislyn Cole winning the shot put with a throw of 43-2 — good for a new school record — followed by a 2-3-4 finish in the discus from Erin Talbott (131-7), Cole (128-3) and Kaylee Rampey (121-1). McKee took time off from her relay duties to take the gold medal with a spectacular win in the 300 hurdles with a winning time of 43.53 well ahead of North star Tahlor Brown, who was second in 44.48. North distance ace Maddie Medina was runnerup to Broken Arrow freshman Payton Hinkle in the 3200 as Hinkle posted a narrow 11:00.09 to 11:04.70 win. Medina was third in the 1600 run in 5:02.14.
